There is no freedom of speech on Twitter
Elon Musk has in some ways restored some freedom to express oneself on his social media platform, but as for his promises to make Twitter the town square where free speech reigns, he’s a liar.
Is it sleight of hand, or failure to pay attention to details?
Elon’s hiring of his new CEO who spent years at NBC running their own censorship regime has done nothing to quell concerns about the platform going back on Elon’s promises, or failing to deliver on said promises.
Case in point: This is the 4th installment of my “Free Speech Wars” article series, in which I have chronicled my own challenges with censorship on Elon’s Twitter.
Using my own case as an example, I’ve been demonstrating how “the little guys” (people like me who are not famous and don’t have significant social media influencer status) have not had our voices restored, and in fact we are still very much under the boot of the censorship regime.
Suspended for an old tweet from February 2023
When I logged into my account yesterday to wish my friends and followers a Happy Father’s Day, I was greeted with a message from Musk’s Twitter advising me that my account is suspended.
“Your account is suspended,” the notice reads. “After careful review, we determined your account broke the Twitter Rules. Your account is permanently in read-only mode, which means you can’t Tweet, Retweet, or Like content. You won’t be able to create new accounts. If you think we got this wrong, you can submit an appeal.”
I had to check my email for the link to the tweet that caused this suspension. The email was in my spam folder (and rightfully so, since Musk’s Twitter is a free speech empty promise scam. Like snake oil salesmen, he lies and fails to deliver on his word.)
The old tweet from February 18 that got me suspended
This was a response to a tweet from
in which I asked why Fauci and Brix— the “health officials” who lied relentlessly about the Covid vaccines, telling people they were “safe and effective” while knowing full well they were lying— weren’t being arrested and hauled off to face justice at Nuremberg for their crimes.I asked, “why aren’t Fauci and Brix (yet) being hauled off to prison, tried at Nuremberg 2.0 and strung up like the weasel criminals they are in public executions? I can’t wait. Pass the popcorn.”
Again, this tweet was from 4 months ago to the day.
And look carefully at the language, which is NOT a call for violence, but for law enforcement.
During these 4 months, I had plenty of interactions with Twitter Support:
Subscribed to Twitter Blue
Went through a thorough review of my account
Got approved for Twitter Blue Check
Got suspended temporarily one time and account restored with an apology from Twitter that the account had been wrongly suspended
While at no time during any of the above did the old tweet cause any problems.
All of this is chronicled in the prior 3 parts of this article series on The Free Speech Wars. Links to all 3 parts are below at the bottom of this article.
It’s this type of unfairness and arbitrary application of suspensions that make Musk’s Twitter and his promises of free speech reek of bullshit, lies and gaslighting.
After filing my appeal, in which I carefully asserted my claim that I did not intend to violate any Twitter rules, I received the “final determination” that my appeal is rejected and my account will not be restored.
None of the specifics of my appeal were addressed.
No options were given to remove the tweet in order to keep my account.
In fact, Twitter has not removed the tweet, demonstrating they do not in fact believe the tweet needs to be removed. Instead they removed my entire account.
They simply had enough of Evan Talks on Twitter.
As George Orwell— author of the dystopian novel 1984 that serves as the playbook for the dictators of the New World Order— is famous for predicting:
“If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face— for ever.” -George Orwell
